Every December, I think of my word for the following year. Do you do the same, I wonder? The word I choose, I put on the first page of my planner. It’s something I look at when I feel lost. The word captures my intention for the new year. My word for 2024 was WRITE. I did get some writing done, though not as much as I had planned.
I still have time until New Year’s eve, but so far, my word for 2025 is RITUAL. I was also thinking of HABIT and ROUTINE but this blog post explained the difference – https://bulletjournal.com/blogs/faq/habit-vs-ritual?srsltid=AfmBOor3-VJCPqFdaFXPynw9ju5AAjDU6D-t8hP6Weh61Fz4j74dXkYJ. Some quotes below:
- A RITUAL is simply a repeated sequence of behaviors.
- A ROUTINE differs from a RITUAL. The goal of a routine is to make a behavior automatic, the goal of a ritual is to make it intentional.
- A HABIT is an acquired behavior pattern regularly followed until it has become almost involuntary.
- Whereas routine is a process-driven approach to behavior change, ritual is a purpose-driven approach. Routines focus on the what, rituals focus on the why.
- While habits make the ordinary invisible, rituals make the ordinary extraordinary.
So yes, I wish to establish RITUALS rather than ROUTINES. I want to be intentional and I wish to focus on the WHY. I guess it’s because 2024 has been a busy year. I was running like a headless chicken to do activities that needed doing. I barely had time to think about WHY. I envision an extraordinary 2025!
So what will we discuss at the #HealthXPH tweet chat tonight? 14 Dec 9 pm Manila time.
T1. Do you have a year-end ritual? Please share how it helps you prepare for the new year.
T2. If a word can encapsulate your 2024, what is it? It’s up to you, if you feel like elaborating.
T3. The practice of choosing a word for the new year is one of intention. Do you do this? Even if you do not, think of one now. Why did you choose that word?
See you later, on X.
